MCTools App Privacy Policy
Effective October 18, 2026 · applies to the MCTools desktop app for Overwolf
MCTools app: Privacy · Terms of Use · Support · About the app
In plain English: the MCTools app has no MCTools account, runs no analytics of its own, and keeps your creations on your computer. It only sends something off your PC when you look up a Minecraft username (to fetch that player's public skin) or use MCTools+ (to check your subscription with Overwolf). The free app shows ads from Overwolf, and Overwolf's ad system collects advertising data under Overwolf's own privacy policy. If you subscribe to MCTools+, Tebex handles the payment and the app only learns whether your subscription is active. We do not sell your data.
Who this policy is between
This policy covers the MCTools desktop app (the "app") for Windows, which runs on the Overwolf platform. The app is made by MCTools ("we", "us"), the creator of mc-tools.net. How the app collects and uses data while you use it is governed by this policy. This policy is between you and us only, not with Overwolf. Overwolf's own processing is covered by the Overwolf Privacy Policy.
Personal data we collect
None on our servers. The app has no sign-up, no login, and no MCTools account. We do not collect your name, email address, or payment details, and the app has no analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting of its own. We run no server that receives data from the app.
If you use MCTools+, the app reads your Overwolf user id and a short-lived Overwolf sign-in token from the Overwolf client (your Overwolf Single-Sign-On account) and sends them only to Overwolf's subscription service, to check whether you are a subscriber. We never receive them. Details are under "MCTools+ subscriptions and payments" below.
The only personal data we receive is what you choose to send us when you contact us (for example your email address or Discord name and your message). We use it only to answer you.
What stays on your computer
- Your work and settings. Tool creations, app settings, saved skins and capes, settings profiles, world backups, and the list of packs you installed. These are kept in
%APPDATA%\MCTools and in the app's local storage. They are not uploaded anywhere.
- Files the app reads. To show your installed packs, back up worlds, and save or apply settings profiles, the app reads your Minecraft folders: pack folders, world saves,
options.txt, servers.dat, the hotbar file, and mod config folders. To find where packs go, it checks which Minecraft install folders exist and lists the instance folders of supported launchers (for example the CurseForge instances folder and MarkClient's instance list). It does not read your Minecraft or Microsoft account login files. All of this happens on your PC, only when you open those pages or press those buttons.
- Files the app writes. When you press an install, restore, rename, or apply button, the app writes into your Minecraft folders (resource packs, behavior packs, skin packs, cape files, worlds, settings) or into its own folder. It refuses to change a game's files while that game is running.
- Game detection. The app checks whether Minecraft is running (using Overwolf's game APIs and a check for the game's process) so overlays, auto backups, and settings profiles work. In-game overlays such as Coords use live game information from Overwolf's game events. This is used live on your PC and is not stored or sent by MCTools.
- MCTools+ status. If you use MCTools+: the last subscription status the app checked and which plan it is, when it checked, the Overwolf user id it checked for, your Theme Lab colors, and whether beta mode is on (so the perks keep working if you are briefly offline). Like everything else here, they stay on your PC.
What leaves your computer, and why
- Username skin lookups. If you type a Minecraft username or Bedrock gamertag, the app sends that name to public skin services to fetch that player's public skin: playerdb.co, crafthead.net, mc-heads.net, textures.minecraft.net, and for Bedrock gamertags api.mccompanion.net and api.geysermc.org. Purpose: showing you the skin you asked for. Only the name you typed is sent. Like any web request, these services can see your IP address. Their own privacy policies apply.
- Ads (Overwolf). The free app shows ads served by Overwolf's advertising SDK. Overwolf and its advertising partners may collect advertising-related data, such as your IP address, advertising and device identifiers, and ad interactions, to show and measure ads. Purpose: paying for the free app. That collection is done by Overwolf under the Overwolf Privacy Policy, which also explains your choices, including privacy settings in the Overwolf client. We receive only overall reports from Overwolf (such as ad impressions and revenue), not data about you.
- MCTools+ (optional subscription). To check whether you are a subscriber, the app asks Overwolf's subscription service, using your Overwolf account (your Overwolf user id and a short-lived sign-in token from the Overwolf client), when the app starts, about every 6 hours, for a few minutes after you open the checkout, and when you press Restore purchase or Check again. It gets back only the subscription's status (active, cancelled, expired) and which plan it is. When you press Get MCTools+, the app opens the Tebex checkout in your web browser with your Overwolf user id attached, so the payment is linked to your Overwolf account. Purpose: giving subscribers their perks. The app never sees your name, email, card, or other payment details.
- Discord status (Rich Presence). If Discord is running on your PC while the MCTools window is open, the app tells your Discord app what to show on your Discord profile: "Using MCTools", the name of the tool you have open (for example "HUD Customizer"), how long you have been using it, and whether Minecraft Java or Bedrock is running. Nothing else: no usernames, file names, skins, packs or worlds. Turn it off any time in Settings, Show on Discord: Off.
- Links you click. Links in the app (for example to mc-tools.net, Discord, or CurseForge) open in your web browser, and those sites' own policies apply.
Sharing with Overwolf
We do not collect your email address, so we do not share it with Overwolf. If you use MCTools+, the app sends your Overwolf Single-Sign-On information (your Overwolf user id and sign-in token, which come from the Overwolf client) back to Overwolf's subscription service to check your subscription, and Overwolf links your Tebex purchase to your Overwolf account. Advertising-related data is collected directly by Overwolf's ad SDK inside the app, as described above. We do not send Overwolf any other data about you.
MCTools+ subscriptions and payments
MCTools+ is sold by Tebex Limited, the seller of record, which processes your payment. Tebex collects what a payment needs (such as your email address, billing country, and payment method) under its own privacy policy: tebex.io/legal/privacy. Overwolf links your purchase to your Overwolf account so the app can check it, under the Overwolf Privacy Policy. MCTools does not receive, see, or store your card or payment account details. You can see every charge and cancel at checkout.tebex.io/payment-history.
Sharing with other third parties
Apart from the skin services, Overwolf, Tebex, and the Discord status listed above, we do not disclose or share personal data with anyone. We do not sell or rent personal data, and we have no account data to sell.
Retention and deletion
- Everything the app keeps is on your computer. To delete it, uninstall the app and delete the
%APPDATA%\MCTools folder. Files you installed into your Minecraft folders stay there until you remove them (the app's Installed page can remove packs it installed).
- Messages you send us are kept only as long as we need them to help you, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Data held by Overwolf or the skin services is kept under their own policies.
- Purchase and subscription records are kept by Tebex and Overwolf under their own policies; contact them to access or delete those.
Security
Because the app does not send your files or settings to us, there is no MCTools copy of them to leak. If personal data collected through the app were ever compromised, we would notify affected users as required by law.
Children
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information, contact us at the MCTools email address in the Contact section below and we will delete it. MCTools+ is bought through Tebex: if you are not old enough to make purchases where you live, a parent or guardian must make the purchase for you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California law), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your personal data, and to object to or limit how it is used. Since we hold almost nothing about you, most requests are quick. Email us and we will answer. For data collected by Overwolf's ads, use the Overwolf Privacy Policy and the Overwolf client's privacy settings. For purchase and payment data, contact Tebex.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Big changes will be posted here before they take effect.
